About the event

TEDxAwty is an independently organized, TED-style event. A day of short talks, each built around one idea, delivered live to an audience from our own community.

Some talks will come from Awty students with a story to tell. Others will come from outside speakers who bring experience from their industries. The aim is simple: leave the room curious, and with something new to think about.

Planning has started early so the event can be the best it can be. Students are leading it, from the logo on the poster to the ticket at the door.

Speakers

Student speakers

If you believe you have a story to tell, a speaker form is coming out later this month. Selected students will be interviewed by the Outreach team.

You don't have to wait to volunteer. Applying to join a team does not stop you from speaking.

External speakers

Industry professionals will join the lineup. The Outreach team is finding them and keeping them informed and prepared for the day.

The full speaker list will be posted here once it is confirmed.

Department member roles

Design team

Help bring the visual identity of the event to life: designing the logo, creating merchandise and team shirts, painting sets and building layouts, illustrating posters, and contributing to other creative decisions. You work under your Head of Design, meet deadlines, and produce creative work that reflects TEDxAwty professionally.

You check in regularly with your team lead and collaborate with fellow Design members. Best for: anyone interested in graphic design, art or visual storytelling. No professional experience required, and it is a great way to build a design portfolio for university.

Outreach team

Communicate with vendors, help find sponsorships, source external speakers, and support interviews with potential student speakers. You keep your team lead updated and help make sure external speakers stay informed and prepared for the day.

Best for: people who are comfortable reaching out to new people, check their email regularly, and follow through without constant reminders. Valuable if you are interested in business, event planning or public relations.

Revenue team

Support the event's financial operations: assisting with budgeting for speaker gifts, merchandise and catering, helping manage ticket sales, and tracking expenses under your Head of Revenue.

Best for: organized people who are comfortable with numbers and reliable with deadlines. A strong way to gain hands-on budgeting experience if you are interested in finance, economics or business.

Marketing team

Maintain TEDxAwty's social media presence in the days leading up to the event: helping with the content calendar, creating promotional graphics alongside Design, and posting on TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn and the Awty Notes Bulletin.

Best for: creative, consistent people who are comfortable with social media platforms and trends. Valuable if you are interested in marketing, communications or media.
